Today was our last full day in Mexico and what a day. Filled with raindrops, volleyball, swedes, and losing one of our own...
It's usually best to start at the beginning. The day began early seeing as a wily pilot had it in his mind to take off early... like 6 in the AM. This awoke dear sweet james or Tubba as we now call him... read last blog. Tubba wanted to take a better look and opened the door. So the noise was unbearable. I think my ears are still bleeding a little... ok maybe not... Then after the plane took off the mexican marines decided to run around and do the hup 2 three four only in spanish so it was probably something like hup dos tres cuatro... This woke me up.
When I got up I was all excited to eat my cakery items. I was to have an apple croissant. I did only there was no filling. remember the burger king commercial where's the beef? I was like where's the apples...
Jenna, mom and dad went to the south end of the island and Jim and I went to the navy store. we bought kinder eggs for jenna. We almost bought a bag of candy thinking it was 65 pesos like 5 bucks... then i saw that it was 165... like super expensive... so we didnt get it. Fiscally responsible. What do you think about that?
Then we walked back. Dad, Jim and I went to town to try and find a firestation. Dad and I went to information and dad tried to ask where the fire station was. Something didnt translate so the guy thought we were asking where a t-shirt store was... like all over the island... anyways... we went to the grocery store and got viddels. then Jim was to circle around the main drag while dad and I went in search of coke.
we first asked for where the fire station is. I asked in spanish and the woman understood me... so proud... though I didnt understand her when she was explaining where it was... half a point to me.
We got diet coke and went in search of Jim. He had been circling for 4 times at least. he was very happy about this because he likes waiting for us.
We returned to the condo and ate lunch.
Then we went to the beach. A German guy asked to borrow our volleyball. I was trying to win the tanning contest at all costs barring the killing or abandonment of Jim so I wasn't playing. Then more people joined. They were Swedes so I had to join. It was pretty fun and I played amazingly. I must have been channeling Misty-May. The teams were unfair though. It was 5 of us mighty viking warriors against a german and 5 mexicans. I almost feel a little sorry for them.
Then all of a sudden Mexico remembered that we are leaving tomorrow and started to cry. At first it rained and then it downpoured. I didnt think it could rain that hard. there were sheets of water coming down. We hopped in the gold cart and got the heck out of north beach.
we waited for the storm to past and went back into town.
I bought some souvenirs. The guy said to me it would be 240 pesos for one of the souvenirs. I got 2 for 200. Nice:)
We ate tacos for dinner and lost dad in the process. Jim and I went to the grocery store to get pop to be more economico. Jenna and mom waited in the restaurant. They didnt know dad was waiting for them and left without them. They met up with us on the beach and asked where is your father? We found him eventually.
Then it was time for more souvenirs.
Followed by margaritas. They were pretty good. i took a hit for the fam and had 2. This got my dear sweet father singing. he wanted to find a karaoke bar but then decided he didnt need one. he sang the theme song for the Beverly Hillbillies on our way back. I saw the cops lights and yelled to my dad "sober face dad it's the po-po" I never for the life of me would have thought I would ever say those words.
update it seems the tannig competition is now over. Jim claims victory but I am going to pull a Franken and ask for a recount because then I will surely win.
Jenna says I sparkle in the sunshine. I guess she can see my halo:)
Jim stop it. Don't throw a fit. naughty don't throw things. Calm down. Ok maybe you are a little tanner than me but I am sparklier:) Dont hang on the fan. I will take away your mustang. yea that got your attention didnt it? Tubbo no crying... oh i have to go get him a hankie. I wasnt serious Jim. I wouildnt really take away your mustang.
Tomorrow at 7:00 in the AM we must be outa this place. It has been fun and real. The weather was marvelous the entire time.
Maybe we will come back next year?
oh yea still reading? nice. Jenna decided she would be hilar and put on a fake tattoo on her back to see if dad would notice. He did and was none too happy.
Hasta luego-

mayan adventures
6 enero 2009
We began our journeys today by renting a golf cart. It is the primary way for turists to see isla mujares. Mom, Jim and dad went around the island first and then jim, jenna and I went when they came back. We went to the South end of the island and saw what there is to see.
We saw a zipline which looked deadly. Essentially you sign a will handing over everything to the people who own the zipline and then proceed to die by falling very quickly into the ocean. I was tempted but decided to pass.
THen we went out to tortuga bay which Jenna says is a turtle farm. I think she is full of baloney. Afterall...
cottleston cottleston cottelston pie
a farm can turtle but a turtle can't farm
cottelston cottelston cottelson pie
Winne T Pooh anyone?
We then went to the South south point of the island. we saw a lot of iguanas. 8 to be exact. I named one Jenna because she was eating bananas the whole time.
We went to the top of a light house. Just inside before you climb it says enter the lighthouse at your own risk. Death may result. I love heights. We got to the top after climbing a million and a half steps. We weer higher than everest... ok maybe not but we were probably 35 feet high which is hihg enough to kill you... and the sight was gorgeous. It looked like a painter had had a field day and gone a little nutso with the blues and greens. Off in the distance we saw the Mayan temple. It is really nothing more than a shack. I thikn it was probably destroyed in the last hurricane some 3 years ago... but it was interesting to look at.
We went back down and we met some people who might have been mayans. I offered to have Jenna sacrificed. They told me no thank you, we aren't sacrificing anymore today. I asked about tomorrow and they said they had a list so if we wanted to add anyone to it we could. we are anxiously awaiting a phone call.
Then we went back to the condo and ate lunch.
We went to the beach and chillaxed.
This is what I learned today. Children are little demons that must be controlled. If you do not control your children I will. If they kick sand at me I will kick sand at them. Sand kicking is not cool. I remember the phrase "no tira la arena" from spanish class. Now I know why I learnt it. because kids like to throw and kick sand. Not anymore!
It was windy at the beach. We sunbathed. Then Jenna, Jim and I went for a walk. I got David an adorable present. It is so cute I know he will love it.
We had pizza and coke on the beach for dinner. Then we came back and chillaxed. I am now out of crosswords and am having trouble not doing them. Do you have nay idea how many times the clue first woman is in the crossword book? Like every other puzzle. I know it is eve can you give me some other clue to try and stretch my mind. How about song about the end of the world during vietnam ends with of destruction. Eve!
We only have 1 full day left and I am getting a little sad. I will miss Mexico and the Mexican coke. I am addicted and will go into an epileptic seizure on the way home. It will be sad and many will mourn. But After days in a coma like state I will wake up speaking German and dancing the cha-cha to the beat of a one-two-one-two-four-and-a-half.
The beaches are so nice and the ocean so pretty. Going back to white cold minnesota will be sad. but will see my friends and relatives. Stephy has told me she would be sad if we don't come home and nobody likes a sad stephy so we will come home. I am telling this to Jim and he is pouting... easy Jim it's ok... no not with the tears again... No it is nice in Minnesota... your mustang is there.... there we go. good boy jim. You will get to see your mustang soon.
Oh sidenote Jim has caught up to me in the hrace to get skin cancer contest (aka tanness ness ness test) (relax we wear sunscreen all the time) He claims victory but bribed the judge (mom). He thinks he is veyr clever and has started to call me Casper as in the ghost. I invented... I mean remembered a story of one of our first nights here when he decided he could fly and jumped on the fan only to have it come loose partially because of his enormous weight. I'm casper? Ok tubs... everyone should call him that. he likes it.
jenna wa happy today because we found a cakery. in mexico there is two types of bakeries. I dislike blending of languages so have invented the word cakery for a bakery that sells cakes. We will have cake goods tomorrow. spannande
In just 2 days we will be back and 5 days I will be back in the frozen north that is st. cloud. Then classes begin... bring it on.
Sidenote 2
I am beginning to realize that I am getting old. The other day when playing volleyball I got tired... That isn't supposed to happen. And I was thirsty... And I was sore right after playing... And I am still sore now... this age business is getting me. I refuse to age anymore.

don't stop the music
lunes 5 2009
Today began way too early once again. I was awoken super early probably about 5:00 AM. I actually got up at 8:00 to walk into town to get groceries and rent a golf cart.
We went into town and got groceries and we were looking for a golf cart. We found lots but you can only have 4 people on a golf cart and we are 5. People kept saying we could have 5 but then we would get to the place where they actually rent them and they say we can't. we don't get one. we walk back and don't get one. We wait for lunch and I nap. Rough life I know. Then we eat lunch and walk back to the beach.
We bought a volleyball and wanted to use it on the beach. Jim and I went out there and started playing. But lo and behold there was a sinful woman sunbathing at the edge of the court. Naughty Jenna... didn't want to play. She would of course not do anything like that. What were you thinking?
Also there was a perv taking pictures of said woman. I could not believe this. He was so rude too! He went super close too. What a perv! I wanted to throw his camera in the ocean.
The tan race is getting close now. Jim says I am redder than he is and he is golden. Pish posh applesauce. I am starting a new race. It is who has blonder hair. I am winning and Jim hates me for it. He is looking at me now thinking boy I wish my hair was the color of patrick's majestic locks.
Jenna got a booboo today. She was playing volleyball and hit her thumb knocking it off. Luckily with a combination of magic and skill she managed to reattach it.
Oh yes, I saw a little lizard today and named it Jim for obvious reasons.
BTW I am supposed to say that Jim is not a guppy. I am not being pressured at all to write this and am doing this of my own volition.
I found 2 pesos in the sand. I found 5 on the street the other day. At this rate I am going to be rich. AKA I am not going home, but plan on making my fortune finding pesos in the sand. I think it is a good plan.
we had mexican ice cream tonight. It is most definitely not gelato... sad days.
The weather was the same as is should be.
Dad had an interesting save yesterday when stubbing his toe I won't say how but...
Tomorrow is more beach and more fun.
I read the first part of my story I am writing to Jenna and Jim last night. They like it. I love it... but we will see how long that lasts. They are the perfect critics giving me no criticism and singing me praises. i won't to read more to them. Maybe the dictionary next? I can see it now "A (the letter) what nice pronunciation Patrick. I am going to go work on it after Jim and Jenna read this.

First encounters of the third kind
4 enero 2009
This blog is written to the beat of Fidelity by Regina Specter. Bounce up and down to it.... it is fun....
Today was the fourth day in the land down under but not that far under. I was awoken at the untimely hour of 10:30 in the A.M after which we proceeded to wait for the maid to clean while we hid well not really oh the balcony.
Then we went on a hundred miles march. I having gotten up "late" was not permitted breakfeast or more factually skipped it because I didn't want strawberry yogurt and our uninvited guests had gotten to our bread.
Last night we had uninvited guests. I thought I saw one before I went to bed, but it was skittish and not very patrick friendly. It was a mouse. Now you might be saying to yourself... Patrick I imagine that mexican mice are cute. I say to you what drugs are you on? They ate my bread! Naughty theiving mices!
So we continued on our journey to find a restaurant that probably had the letters b and a vowel in them. Ha it was funny. At the beginning of our walk we were pretty sure we knew the name of the restaurant that was supposed to have really good hamburgers... As we proceeded we gradually forgot letters... until we were pretty sure it had a b and a vowel in it... which is really helpful. We went to another restaurant.
I had real real authentic chicken tacos. they were goood. Though I almost died every step, succumbing to the duel threats of hunger, heat and jenna kicking sand in my eyes which is probably lethal the second day.
My dear James and I took to the water like fish. I was a piranha and he was a guppy. we tossed the football around in the sea. I am pretty sure we were scouted by all the NFL teams. No big deal.
Then we came back on shore and decided that volleyball is probably very much the same in Mexico as it is in the states. Plus I need practice for intramurals. We played for like 3 hours. It was amazing. We had several great blocks and a few spikes. I was like Misty May and Jim was like Kerry Walsh. Except men...
Oh yes! We saw some lizard like creatures. I think they were iguanas. I named one after my dad because he found him. The other is named Katie. For obvious reasons.
After volleyball we went to the grocery store and then back to the condo. I watched the vikings mess up time and time again... now I don't have to watch football anymore. I also read the book the little prince. It is a childs book but what can i say i ma a child or childlike or not?
The weather was beautiful again today. though there was a sneeze of a sprinkle at the end.
Jim and I are continuing our tanning competition. I am winning and he is hating it. He looks at me with a frown on his face and the determination to use no sunscreen for the rest of the trip. naughty Jim you will end up just like those sinful sunnbathers. But wait can God go to hell?
Interesting side note... When tossing a football at a Jim brother it is usually best to avoid making it land right in front of him splashing him in the face... Jim brothers fail to see the humor but succeed in doing the same to you. Not cool.
Ah yes. I have been meaning to write this for days now.
I think Mexico is a little different from the USA. In america people are told to eat their vegtables. Here in Mexico my mom tells me not to eat them afraid I might get hepatitis from them. In america people are told to drink lots of water. In mexico Americans are told not to drink the water... which means you must drink pop... :) nice!
So I don't have to eat vegetables and get to drink as much pop as i want? I'm never coming home.
Also the pop here is made from real sugar not corn syrup and has twice as much caffeine. Fanta and coke are so good. My taste buds nearly exploded when I drank them. They now beg me to have moe all of the time. i think the secret ingredient is heroin. mmhmm good:) Doctors and blood mobile people always tell me I have great veins for a heroin user. but i can drnk it instead. mm i am going to have some now.... oh so good... so good....!
I have to go now:)

A day in the life of a bandito
el tercero enero 2009 3rd January 2009 (el tres dia o sabado)
Today was our third day in Mexico and the weather was very much the same as yesterday aka vera nice. I awoke at the insanely early hour of 9:30. I didn't sleep the night before having been all writy yesterday and thoughts kept buzzing through my mind no tto mention the noise of something on the roof. Which i stil havent figured out. It was loud and inconsistent not allowing me to get used to it and fall asleep. I had a strange dream though i dont remember it anymore. I prefer it was the sequel to the squirrel dancing the tootsie roll.
I read and ate and then ate again. It is a motif with me. Then we went to the beach and njuted. It was njutful. Jim and I went on a walk and were greatly disturbed to find sinful women sunbathing naughtily. I assured Jim they were going to hell. We walked around the whole of the north end of the island.
We returned and sunbathed more but in a nice way. No fire and brimstone for us. The devil can keep his pitchfork. Also we used copious amounts of sunscreen aka we aren't tan really yet. but that means no skin cancer hoppefully. I am tanner than Jim. He hates me for this, because this is like the universe upside down. this is not what life is supposed to be like. There is an order to life and jim's are supposed to be tanner than their brothers. I got a head start in Greece or at least that is the thought that allows him to sleep at night.
While we are on the subject of siblings... Jenna got all in a tizzy today. For what reason no one knows... She kicked sand in my face twice! Let me tell you sand is not easy on the eyes. Also a word to the wise stay out of kicking/flinging distance of Jenna when she is around small stone granules. She will fling them at you. It is not fun.
We continued the day by watching people playing volleyball. Jim and I were thinking about joining, but there was the whole language barrier and the fact that they all seemed to know each other and then I might lose in the tanning contest so we passed. Maybe tomorrow.
We had another authentic mexican meal of spaghetti at our condo. Then I finished my book which was real good. Water for elephants. Read it and find the 2 mistakes i did. Because then you are cool like me.
I watched the chargers beat the colts in overtime... looks like we have to wait another year for the manning brothers to play against each other in the super bowl.
Ah yes... jenna got sun burnt yesterday and looks like a boiled lobster...
The weather is beautiful here! I just talked with Stephy and she said it is coldish and that it snowed. I am not coming back. sorry.
Oh yes, a day in the life of a bandito... well i have been so good (probably because i am in the presence of Jim aka God aka G-man) so i have reformed my thieving ways and am not a bandito... we'll see how long that lasts...
now i got other stuff to do.
adios amigos

I am not coming back. sorry.
Oh yes, a day in the life of a bandito... well i have been so good (probably because i am in the presence of Jim aka God aka G-man) so i have reformed my thieving ways and am not a bandito... we'll see how long that lasts...
now i got other stuff to do.
adios amigos

once upon a time in Mexico...
2nd January 2009
I don't know how I feel about this whole new year business. I was just getting used to writing 2008 and now I will have to write 2009... Fun times.
OK here we go. Hold on tight,
Yesterday early in the morning we began our journey south to warmer weather and to yet another country where they dont habla me lengua. i was awoken at 3:15 in the AM to go to the airport. I could hhave literally been able to leave in 5 minutes... 1 hour later we were off to the airport. We went through the lines as happens and boarded our plane where we were surprised to find it probably only half full. I had taken two dramamine before we boarded and they are sneaky little buggers. i was in and out of consciousness for the entire 4 hour ride. It was exhilirating and made me harken back to my previous journey to Amsterdam a mere 2 weeks previous. From there we went through immigration and customs which were dare i say faster than in the us? and we waited for an hour for our taxi that we had reserved:( And from there we were brought to a ferry which took half an hour to cross. From this ferry ride I remember there being beautiful shades of blue (probably similiar to my eyes) but this could have been a dream though my mom assures me it wasn't. Once again the dramamine worked... We arrived on islas mujeres and a porter tried to take our bags. my dad was trying to tell him that no we dont need help getting our bags buit the said porter was not interested. then we were told to get a taxi to the condo we were staying at, but my father looked at us with a grin on his face and said it's only a mile and a half. How far could that be? My brother rolled his eyes and asked if he knew which direction it was... silence.
we then walked 15 miles in the searing heat carrying thousands of pounds of luggage while hopping backwards because that is what you have to do... ok so maybe not be we walked a long ways and it was hot out...
We found our condo went inside and i proceeded t othe bed where i slept for the next 4 hours until the dramamine decided it didnt want to play with me anymore... I awoke shortly before sunset. we watched the big orange ball dip below the horizon that is Cancun and headed for town. We arrived at the grocery store just a little after it had closed. (it had closed early because new years is a holiday here).
We then went in search of sustenance and found it in a restaurant called a pizzeria. we ate this interesting authentic mexican food called pepperoni pizza. Have you heard of it? Fantastic stuff we should import it to america. We looked around and went back to the condo where we chillaxed.
Day two (the dos dia) or viernes en espanol
I awoke none too early dreaming about making a squirrel do the tootsie roll which also happens to be my newest favorite song. Listen to it learn it be it. We will dance it all the time at SJU.
Anyways someone who is in charge of our condo knocked at our door at the ungodly hour of 10:00 in the AM. I tried to be asleep but then i thought it might be rude so I tried to read. I don't think he even saw me. I learned that houses here are unbelievably expensive... like 500,000 bucks. yea i know!
Then we went to the supermercado where we got comida and came back. Dad and jenna changed money. Now i have some nice 50 peso bills and feel rich. I am going to buy everything on this island twice...
We came back to the condo and ate lunch. then we headed for la play norte which means the north beach for those of you that don't speak the lengua. We found it and picked a spot and jnutad ((swedish for chillaxed though it is more like sat and enjoyed life) i english past tensed it though)
We weer on the beach all day. Jim and I played catch. We are thinking about going out for the SJU team this fall. I think we have a good chance, except he has to transfer first probably. he played the fun game of through it just beyond Patrick's reach so he has to jump backwwards and fall into the ocean. He timed it just right so I would be inhaling as I did this. he did this on purpose... many times... which had the hilarious effect of getting salt water up my nose, down my throat and in my eyes. But I caught it:)
then we sunbathed and it was nice. the weather could not have been nicer. It was probably 85 degrees with only occasional white puffy cumulous clouds. We ate another authentic mexican meal of hambuergasas aka hamburgers.
On our way back I heard swedes and it was funny because why were they here? But then again why am I? But at least I live on the contintent so...
We watched the sun set and went back to the condo.
I read from my book and everyone else njuted. I am njuting now and it is njutful.
